Vitamin B1
Composition
Oral tablet- Each tablet contains active ingredients Thiamine HCL 100 mg with other excipients accordingly. Injection-Each mL contains Thiamine HCL 100 mg, chlorobutanol anhydrous 0.5% monothiglyceral 0.5 % water for injection
Indications
It is indicated in beri beri, thiamine deficiency, and Wernicke’s encephalopathy, vitamin, and mineral supplementation
Side effects
Mild to moderate side effect has been observed such as restlessness, sweating, itching, nausea, and black and tarry stools.
Precautions
This drug is to be cautiously used in patients with allergic reactions, impaired kidney function, pregnancy, and lactation.
Contraindications
This drug is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity
Dosage and administration
For beri beri- In adults usual dose consists of a tablet of 5 to 10 mg of thiamine to be given for 1 month. Injection- 10 to 20 mg to be given IM three times a day for 2 weeks. Vitamin and mineral supplementation- In adults usual dose consists of tablets of 50 to 100 mg to be given orally once a day. Wernicke’s encephalopathy- 100mg to be given intravenously until a patient is on a regular diet. Thiamine deficiency- In adults usual dose consists of a tablet of 10- 50 mg/day to be given orally once a day.
