Verapamil

Composition

A single-dose film-coated tablet of verapamil, available in 40, 80, and 120 mg, is composed of verapamil hydrochloride IP equivalent along with other ingredients.

Indications

Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of hypertension, angina chronic or stable angina, supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, and rapid conversion to sinus rhythm.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, noisy breathing, blurred vision, itching, rashes in some cases, tingling sensations, and vomiting.

Precautions

This drug is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with low blood pressure, hypotension, severe dizziness, or unusual fatigue.

Contraindications

This drug is contraindicated in patients with a history of previous severe hypotension, second or third-degree heart block, sick sinus syndrome, left ventricular dysfunction, AV blockage, or Wolf Parkinson White syndrome.

Dosage and administration

In adults, the usual dosage for PSVT is 0.1-3 mg/kg to be administered intravenously over 2 minutes; a maximum of 5 mg/first dose can be given.
