Tofacitinib
Composition
Each single dose tablet is available in 5 mg, 11mg,10 mg, and 22mg. Each tablet contains 8 mg tofacitinib citrate equivalent to 5 mg tofacitinib. There are different coatings as per the need.
Indications
This drug is indicated in patients with ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing arthritis.
Side effects
Mild to moderate side effect has been observed such as anemia, fatty liver, dehydration, upper respiratory tract infection
Precautions
This drug is to be cautiously used in patients with lymphoma, liver impairment, infection, pregnancy, and breast feeding.
Contraindications
This drug is contraindicated in patients with cancer, tuberculosis, and anemia.
Dosage and administration
For ulcerative colitis- Immediate-release tablet- The usual adult dose consists of a tablet of 10 mg to be given orally twice a day. Extended-release tablet- Usual adult dose consists of a tablet of 22 mg to be given orally twice a day. For rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing arthritis: Immediate-release tablet- Usual adult dose consists of a tablet of 5 mg to be given orally twice a day. Extended-release tablet- Usual adult dose consists of a tablet of 11 mg to be given orally once a day.
