Testosterone
Composition
Contains Testosterone, the primary male sex hormone, available in various synthetic or bioidentical formulations.
Indications
Used in testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for male hypogonadism, delayed puberty in males, and certain breast cancers in women.
Side effects
Acne, mood changes, increased red blood cell count, fluid retention, potential risk of prostate enlargement or cardiovascular events.
Precautions
Monitor prostate health, hematocrit, and lipid levels; use cautiously in those with cardiovascular or liver disease.
Contraindications
Prostate or breast cancer in men, severe liver or kidney disease, pregnancy, known hypersensitivity to testosterone.
Dosage and administration
Varies by form: 50–100 mg IM weekly; 5–10 g daily of gel; or 4–6 mg/day via patches.
