Spironolactone

Composition

A single-dose uncoated tablet is available in 25, 50, and 100 mg dosages is composed of Spironolactone IP equivalent to 25, 50, and 100 mg along with other ingredients.

Indications

Usage of Spironolactone is indicated in the treatment of high blood pressure, heart failure, hypokalemia, and cases of fluid retention such as edema.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as dizziness, muscle cramps, low energy, nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, unusual fatigue, and signs of sore throat in some cases.

Precautions

To be prescribed in patients with severe hepatic disorders or renal dysfunction, during pregnancy to be cautiously prescribed.

Contraindications

Usage of Spironolactone is contraindicated in patients with hyperkalemia, severe renal dysfunction, hyponatremia, Addison's disease, or hypersensitivity to any of the constituents of Spironolactone.

Dosage and administration

In adults, the usual dosage consists of 25–100 mg per day in a single dose to be administered orally.
