Salsalate
Composition
Contains Salsalate, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) derived from salicylic acid.
Indications
Used to relieve pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other musculoskeletal disorders.
Side effects
Gastrointestinal upset, nausea, tinnitus, headache, dizziness, rare risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Precautions
Use cautiously in patients with GI ulcers, bleeding disorders, or renal impairment; avoid use with other salicylates.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salicylates, active GI bleeding, bleeding disorders, children with viral infections (risk of Reye’s syndrome).
Dosage and administration
Typical adult dose: 500–1000 mg two to three times daily, adjusted based on response.
