Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of mild to moderate high blood pressure or in the prevention of strokes and heart attacks, the prevention of kidney problems, the widening of blood vessels, or decreasing the overall workload on the heart.

A mild to moderate range of side effects have been observed. Side effects such as nausea, dizziness, headache, fatigue, fever, weakness, vomiting, lightheadedness, diarrhea, constipation, and an increase in the frequency of urination.

This medication is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with severe hepatic disorders or renal dysfunction, in patients with an allergic reaction, in patients with narcolepsy, or in patients with prostate cancer.

This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to this drug or any of its constituents, in cases of orthostatic hypotension, syncope, pregnancy, breast-feeding, priapism, or in patients with a previous history of known sensitivity to quinolones.

The usual dose for adults with hypertension consists of an initial dose of 1 mg to be administered orally every 8 hours; a maintenance dose of up to 6–15 mg per day can be given, divided 2-3 times daily accordingly. In cases of benign prostate hypertrophy, the initial dose of 0.5 mg to be administered orally every 12 hours can be increased up to 2 mg per oral hour.
