Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of moderate to severe hypertension, in cases of angina, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardias, edema, atrial blockages, relaxation of blood vessels or end arteries, prevention of heart attacks, and essential tremors.

A mild to moderate range of side effects have been observed. Side effects such as nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, palpitations, fatigue, headache, extreme weakness, diarrhea, abdominal pain in some cases, tingling sensations in some cases, a decreased heart rate, and troubled breathing.

This medication is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with severe allergies, pregnancy, extreme fatigue, or troubled breathing issues. Patients should also avoid smoking while on this medication.

This medication is contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis, sinus bradycardia, complete heart block, severe cases of heart failure, Raynaud’s phenomenon, emphysema, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, some cases of right-sided heart failure, and a previous history of hypersensitivity to this drug.

In adults, the usual dosage in cases of hypertension consists of 5 mg to be administered orally every 12 hours; the maximum dose can be increased up to 10 mg per day.
