Moxifloxacin

Composition

A single tablet of moxifloxacin contains Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride IP, equivalent to Moxifloxacin 400 mg, as its constituents.

Indications

Moxifloxacin is indicated for the treatment of plague, acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia CAP, skin structure-related infections, and both complicated and uncomplicated intra-abdominal infections.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, sweating, stomach cramps or tenderness, itching, loss of appetite, headache, irritability, dry mouth, and bone pain.

Precautions

To be prescribed cautiously in patients with hypokalemia, any seizure, or CNS-related disorders; not to be prescribed in patients with diarrhea as it may worsen it.

Contraindications

This drug is contraindicated in patients with a history of low blood sugar, in patients with a low seizure threshold, and in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug.

Dosage and administration

A single-dose tablet of 400 mg is to be administered orally 24 hours after meals.
