Menotropins

Composition

Contains Menotropins, a combination of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) extracted from the urine of postmenopausal women.

Indications

Used to stimulate follicular development in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like IVF and to treat infertility due to anovulation.

Side effects

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), injection site reactions, headache, abdominal pain, nausea.

Precautions

Monitor ovarian response closely to prevent OHSS; use cautiously in patients with ovarian cysts or hormone-sensitive tumors.

Contraindications

Primary ovarian failure, ovarian cysts unrelated to infertility, uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal dysfunction, hypersensitivity to menotropins.

Dosage and administration

Typically 75–150 IU daily by intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous (SC) injection, adjusted based on ovarian response.
