Lisinopril

Composition

A single-dose tablet of lisinopril consists of lisinopril dihydrate I.P., equivalent to 5 mg of lisinopril, along with other inactive ingredients.

Indications

Its usage is indicated in the treatment of high blood pressure. The lowering of blood pressure further assists in preventing damage to organs such as the kidneys and heart and is used in cases of heart failure.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, tiredness, dry cough, hyperkalemia, muscle weakness, yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, rashes, yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, rash, and itching occur in some cases.

Precautions

This drug is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with a history of allergic reactions or who are allergic to the ACE inhibitor class of drugs, patients with a history of angioedema, and female patients planning to conceive.

Contraindications

Lisinopril is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions, a history of angioedema, a previous known history of renal failure, or renal artery stenosis.

Dosage and administration

In adults, the usual dosage in the case of patients with hypertension is a single dose of 10 mg, given once a day at first. The usual dose should not be more than 40 mg per day.
