Liothyronine
Composition
Contains Liothyronine sodium, a synthetic form of the active thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3).
Indications
Used to treat hypothyroidism, myxedema coma, and sometimes as part of diagnostic tests for thyroid disorders.
Side effects
Palpitations, anxiety, weight loss, sweating, insomnia, increased heart rate.
Precautions
Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, elderly patients, and those with adrenal insufficiency.
Contraindications
Untreated adrenal insufficiency, thyrotoxicosis, hypersensitivity to liothyronine.
Dosage and administration
Typical adult starting dose: 5–25 mcg/day, adjusted based on response and lab results.
