Use of this drug is indicated in the treatment of various infections such as respiratory tract infections consisting of bronchitis, pneumonia, legionnaires disease, whooping cough or pertussis, any type of lung infection, diphtheria, and used in the treatment of various sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis, intestinal tract infections, ear-associated infections, gynecological infections, and urinary tract associated infections.

A mild to moderate range of side effects has been observed. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach cramps, bloating, indigestion, and skin rashes are common. Severe stomach pain in some cases and a high temperature are accompanied at times.

This drug is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with complaints of diarrhea, patients with QT wave prolongation syndrome, and patients with heart disorders.

This drug is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity and in patients taking drugs such as terfenadine, astemizole, and cisapride.

In adults, the usual single dosage consists of one 500-mg tablet once a day to be administered orally post meals.
