Diphenoxylate /Atropine

Composition

Contains Diphenoxylate hydrochloride (2.5 mg) and Atropine sulfate (0.025 mg) per tablet or 5 mL solution.

Indications

Used to treat acute and chronic diarrhea.

Side effects

Drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, constipation.

Precautions

Use cautiously in hepatic impairment and in children; risk of CNS depression and atropine toxicity.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in diarrhea caused by infections (e.g. C. difficile), obstructive jaundice, and in children under 6 years.

Dosage and administration

Adults: 2.5 mg (1 tablet) 3–4 times daily, max 20 mg/day.
