Ciprofloxacin

Composition

Each Film coated tablet is available in 250 mg, 500 mg, and 750 mg each of which contains ciprofloxacin equivalent IP.

Indications

It is used to treat a wide range of infections such as Urinary tract infections caused by E,coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, enterobacter cloacal, acute complicated cystitis in females, chronic bacterial prostatitis in males, lower respiratory tract infections, acute sinusitis; skin-related infections, bone, and joint related infections.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects such as fever, rash, mild diarrhea, and facial edema in some cases. Other side effects such as urticaria, itching, pharyngeal edema, and dizziness.

Precautions

To be pre-cautiously prescribed in cases of photosensitivity or photo-toxicity, in renal impairment and hepatic disorders. In cases of central nervous system-related disorders.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, or to any other constituent of the quinolone class of drugs, administration is along with Tizanidine is contraindicated.

Dosage and administration

250 g tablet is to be taken twice daily PO. One tablet of 500 mg is to be taken 12 hourly PO post-meal. Dosage to be adjusted in case of patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
