Use of cefaclor is indicated in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, acute bronchitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, and upper respiratory tract infections, including tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, otitis media, skin-associated infections, urinary tract infections, and urethritis.

Mild to moderate side effects have been observed such as nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, dizziness, rash, unusual joint pain, and dark urine.

To be prescribed cautiously in patients with any allergies, such as those allergic to penicillin or other cephalosporins, or kidney impairment.

This drug is contraindicated in patients with a previous history of hypersensitivity or allergy to drugs from the cephalosporin class.

The usual adult dosage is 250 mg per capsule, administered every 8–12 hours orally, post meals. A dosage of 500 mg is to be administered orally twice a day, according to the severity of the infection and duration of treatment.
