Capecitabine
Composition
Capecitabine, an oral chemotherapy drug, consists primarily of the active ingredient 5'-deoxy-5-fluoro-N-[(pentyloxy)carbonyl]cytidine along with various inactive ingredients in tablet form.
Indications
The use of this drug is indicated in the treatment of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and gastric cancer.
Side effects
Mild to moderate side effects have been observed such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hand-foot syndrome, and myelosuppression.
Precautions
To be cautiously used in patients with impaired renal function, hepatic impairment, and in pregnancy.
Contraindications
This drug is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment and in patients with known hypersensitivity to capecitabine.
Dosage and administration
The recommended dosage is 1250 mg/m² twice daily for 2 weeks followed by a 1-week rest period in a 3-week cycle.
