Benazepril
Composition
Each single-dose tablet of benazepril, available in 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg, is composed of benazepril hydrochloride USP equivalent along with other constituents.
Indications
Benazepril is used in the treatment of hypertension, the prevention of strokes, kidney disorders, and congestive heart failure.
Side effects
Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as nausea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, drowsiness, abnormal renal function, coughing, and increased serum creatinine function, coughing, and increased serum creatinine. In severe cases, side effects such as rash, dermatitis, hair loss, agranulocytosis, and hemolytic anemia can occur.
Precautions
To be prescribed cautiously in patients with a history of hoarseness, troubled breathing, or trouble swallowing.
Contraindications
This drug is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to benazepril or any other ACE inhibitors. Contraindicated in patients with a prior history of angioedema.
Dosage and administration
In adults, the usual dosage consists of 5 mg per day to be administered orally and may be increased up to 20 mg per day.
