Atropine
Composition
Contains Atropine, an anticholinergic (muscarinic receptor antagonist).
Indications
Used for pupil dilation (mydriasis), cycloplegia, bradycardia, organophosphate poisoning, and to reduce salivation.
Side effects
Dry mouth, blurred vision, photophobia, urinary retention, tachycardia, confusion.
Precautions
Use cautiously in patients with glaucoma, urinary retention, or gastrointestinal obstruction.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to atropine, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma.
Dosage and administration
Ophthalmic: One drop in eye as directed for dilation. Systemic: Dose varies by indication (e.g., bradycardia or poisoning).
