Atenolol
Composition
A single-dose uncoated tablet of atenolol available in 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg dosages consists of 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg of atenolol IP as its constituents, along with other ingredients.
Indications
In the event of a heart attack, the use of atenolol is indicated in the treatment of hypertension by decreasing the workload on the heart and other blood vessels.
Side effects
Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as nausea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, sweating, shortness of breath, anxiety, blurred vision, cold hands or feet, irritability, and loss of appetite.
Precautions
Not to be prescribed during pregnancy, to be prescribed cautiously in patients with a recurrent history of heart attacks, in the case of diabetic patients.
Contraindications
Atenolol is contraindicated in patients with a history of sinus bradycardia, 2nd or 3rd-degree heart block, or in cases of shock such as cardiogenic shock.
Dosage and administration
In adults, the usual dose consists principally of patients with high blood pressure, a 50 mg dose once a day is to be administered orally. In case of a heart attack, 50 mg is to be administered 10 minutes after the last intravenous dose, followed by another 50 mg later on.
