Albuterol

Composition

Contains Albuterol (also known as Salbutamol), a short-acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist.

Indications

Used for the relief and prevention of bronchospasm in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and exercise-induced bronchospasm.

Side effects

Tremor, nervousness, palpitations, headache, throat irritation.

Precautions

Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes; monitor for paradoxical bronchospasm.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to albuterol or any component of the formulation.

Dosage and administration

Inhaler: 90 mcg per actuation, 1–2 inhalations every 4–6 hours as needed; Nebulizer: 2.5 mg every 4–6 hours; Oral: 2–4 mg tablets 3–4 times daily
