Phenazopyridine
Composition
Contains Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride, commonly 95 mg or 100 mg per tablet (OTC) and 200 mg (prescription).
Indications
Provides symptomatic relief of pain, burning, urgency, and discomfort during urination, often due to urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Side effects
Headache, dizziness, upset stomach, orange/red discoloration of urine.
Precautions
Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment; not intended for long-term use.
Contraindications
Renal failure, hypersensitivity to Phenazopyridine, and in children under 12 unless directed by a doctor.
Dosage and administration
Typically 100–200 mg orally 3 times daily after meals for up to 2 days.
