Levaquin

Composition

Tablet Levaquin comes in a film-coated form in 250 mg, 500 mg, and 750 mg. It contains the active ingredient Levofloxacin and other ingredients that is hypromellose, crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium Stearate, and polyethylene glycol.

Indications

Its use is indicated in adults with mild, moderate, and severe infections caused by susceptible strains of designated microorganisms. Infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, nosocomial pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin-related infections, other infections such as abscesses, furuncles, cellulitis, impetigo, pyoderma, Chronic bacterial prostatitis, complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections, Inhalational anthrax.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects such as nausea, headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness, pruritus, fatigue, fever, and gastrointestinal system-associated side effects such as dry mouth, stomatitis, loss of appetite, and change in taste.

Precautions

To be prescribed precautiously during pregnancy, patients with antibiotic resistance, Patients with peripheral neuropathies associated with Levofloxacin, renal impairment.

Contraindications

Levofloxacin is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, quinolone antimicrobial agents, and any other components of the product.

Dosage and administration

The usual dose of Levaquin tablets in adults is usually 250 mg PO twice a day. A dose of 500 mg is to be taken PO once daily. Dosage is to be adjusted in case of renal impairment and hepatic disorders accordingly.
