Zithromax

Composition

This medicine contains the active ingredient azithromycin dihydrate, which is equivalent to 262.05 mg of azithromycin base in each capsule. It also contains lactose anhydrous and sulfur dioxide.

Indications

This macrolide antibiotic drug is used to treat a mild to moderate range of infections such as acute otitis media, acute bacterial sinusitis in adults, acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated skin-related infections, genital ulcer disease in males, community-acquired pneumonia in adults and pediatric patients, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis.

Side effects

Common side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, headache, dizziness, rash, and angioedema have been observed.

Precautions

Patients with allergies, or who are allergic to any of the antibiotic-class drugs, should be prescribed with caution, as should patients with renal impairment, hepatic impairment, certain muscular diseases, or heart conditions.

Contraindications

This drug is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or any macrolide drug. Previously used in patients with cholestatic jaundice and hepatic dysfunction.

Dosage and administration

In the case of related infections, take one 500-mg tablet orally once daily. Once a day, take one 250 mg tablet orally after meals.
